Itching for a fresh, clean bed?

“Dust mites are among the most common causes of asthma. Like asthma, eczema is often triggered by exposure to allergens such as dust mites. The mites themselves shed gut enzymes – proteins called Der f1 and Der p1 – in their faeces. The enzymes are used to break down the human skin cells that the critters feed on, and these molecules can elicit powerful allergic reactions in some people.

Repeated exposure to mite bodies and faecal pellets could disrupt the local skin’s barrier function, [which is] likely to provide a portal of entry for allergens and irritants,” the researchers say. “The inflammation, itchiness, and dry skin of a dust mite allergy is initially triggered by dust mite proteins breaking-down layers of skin.”

Dust mites love your mattress – it is one of their favourite places to live. According to The Sleep Council, allergies affect over 21 million adults in the UK and 59% of indoor allergy sufferers say their symptoms feel worse in the bedroom. 80% of asthma is triggered by allergy, and asthma is acknowledged as an underlying condition in the COVID crisis.

Allergy created by dust mites and their droppings are far worse than any allergy created by pollen, because asthma kills people whereas hay fever does not.

Good ventilation and a clean bed are very important.

A bed should be easy to clean and dust mite free, but mattresses cannot be washed to kill mites and remove their faeces.

Preventing dust mite allergies is just one of the reasons we skipped the mattress and designed a sleep system that can be thoroughly cleaned, is supportive, hygienic, and sustainable for people and the planet.

Ammique beds have been designed and engineered with no mattress and no inherent padding. Instead, there are three removable and washable (at 60 degrees) tailored Coversofts (specialist toppers). When you sleep on an Ammique bed, you can choose who you would like to sleep with, and there is absolutely no need for you or your partner to share it with millions of dust mites, bacteria, or viruses.

Healthier nights for healthier days – not to be sneezed at.
